My name is Melissa J. Meade and I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. I am a predominately self-taught photographer that began my photography journey during my high school days using my mom's digital camera and it quickly grew into a passion in college when I received my first DSLR as a Christmas gift. With a primary focus in Alaskan wildlife and landscapes, I have traveled all over Alaska from the rugged Chugach Mountains to Denali National Park, McNeil River Sanctuary, Kenai Mountains including the vast Harding Icefield, Kenai Fjords National Park and beyond.
I have photographed all types of wildlife from the massive Coastal Brown Bear to the powerful bull moose during the rut, to the breath taking mountain ridges home to Dall Sheep to the musical dance of Sharp-Tailed Grouse. I am always looking to expand my horizons, learn new techniques and finding new adventures. I have had the pleasure of meeting numerous photographers over the past few years, learning from them, getting new inspiration and even being able to join them on photography trips throughout Alaska.
I have experience in other photography techniques and styles such as long exposure, light painting, lifestyle, portraiture including children, newborn, maternity, weddings, sports, and pet photography.
I currently reside in Anchorage and enjoy spending as much time as possible fishing, camping, hiking, adventuring and exploring the wonders that Alaska has to offer. There is nothing that can quite capture nor explain the feeling and peace that comes from being in the vast majesty and beauty of the Alaskan mountain ranges and taking in the quiet and magic of it all. Photography has become a way for me to share these amazing sights and experiences with others so they, too, can partake in the beauty of this amazing state.
